5 months!
so anyways, i was just chillin with him at the mall and then he just left!
wait. if i pull this skirt, you dont see my diaper! AHAHH.
WHAT? I WILL keep doing it! this is awesome!
ok ok ok ill stop. dummies. what? who? hes where?
hey..hey...am i invisible with these sunglasses? can he see me???? hes holding up a sign again? what?
YOU KNOW I CANT READ. i...am....5...drool.
AHAH hes so stupid. you think i should beat him up? I CAN TAKE HIM. IM A HEART BREAKER.
BEAR. YOU. ARE. DONE.
AHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAH. dumb bear.
kay is 5 months old and she is a star. she is starting to get in the super cute adorable baby stage and we love it. i cant wait for the next few months to have even more fun with her before she starts getting...mobile. its nice that if we leave her somewhere, we know she will still be there when we come back. its gonna be scary once she starts crawling and walking!
k fun facts:
-starting to finally grow some hair on that round head
-can roll over from tummy to back both ways (although there are days where she pretends not to remember how, little punk)
-can do tummy time for about 25 minutes straight before she starts losing it, which i think is pretty awesome actually
-can play independently for approx 45 minutes (on her play mat) before she gets bored and wants attention
-drools a lot
-smiles ALL the time, shes such a star
-plays with her feet
-eats her hands now because we think she is teething
-takes 2 naps a day, approx 3 hours total and sleeps approx 12 hours through the night...although she has started randomly crying in the middle of the night, so we have to go in there and stick the binky in her mouth and she falls back assleep
-can somehow completely get out of her miracle blanket, turn 90 degs, kick her legs up in the air and manage to only have her head on the mattress of her crib...and lays there for who knows how long because she was singing when we found her like that
-likes peekaboo and my random crazy singing and dancing
-loves her pink pig from target, which incidentally puts her right to sleep when we are in the car, so we love it too
-has tried the following baby foods: bananas, peaches, apples, pears, sweet potatos, green beans, sweet peas, and carrots so far. we are gonna try mangos and prunes next. the only thing that didnt suit her were carrots, hopefully everythin else will sit well with her.
anyway - that was more for me as a reminder of her milestones, but you must love K-rex if you have read this far down. dorks.
fun pictures
there was absolutely nothing in this world at this moment that could make her smile. why you ask? hmm lets count the reasons: giant huge bow = HATE. tights = HATE. silver shiny chadi = HATE. frilly dress courtesy of bean maushi = HATE. my parents propping her in 933908 positions = HATE. sweater = HATE. etc etc etc
getting ready for baby adam's baptism.
what?
WHAT?
we went to help mary out with some decorating and baby adam was OVER IT.
all dressed up, nowhere to go.
U OF I LOVE courtesy of saggy mama.
sleepy cheeks.
familia
i got my ears did.
BEFORE. outside of the piercing pagoda.
AFTER.
the definition of elegance and sophistication. (note: it is hard to take a picture of said pierced ears because fat cheeks block the ears. apologies in advance)
we went to get indian food with our parents and after eating 395085048lbs of deliciousness, we decided to walk it off at the mall with kay kay. little did everyone know that i am spontaneous about piercings (aka when i randomly got my belly button pierced in between econ and accounting at u of i soph year, such an idiot, it looked cute though bc i was thin...until i put in a long dangly earring type belly button ring in there and then i just looked dumb- I WAS 19 WHATEVS ok moving on)((i actually kept my belly button thing in there until i was like 4 months pregnant isnt that weird o OK seriously moving on))
ANYWAY it went down like this:
us walking past claires, me: " i think keya needs her ears pierced."
my mom "yeah you guys should do it"
me "ok lets go. now."
my mom, jakes mom, jakes dad, my dad, jake, keya: "NOW?!?"
me: "yeah lets rip it off like a bandaid, who cares, it takes 5 seconds"
keya: "um, WHAT? drool"
everyone else: sweating, nervous "no, lets think about this"
so we walk around the mall and i see piercing pagoda. perfect.
me: "excuse me, do babies cry a lot when they get their ears pierced?"
15 year old ghetto employee: "nah ma"
me: "ok brb" (starting to feel nervous)
everyone tries to distract me by trying to convince me to join the rest of the world and get a real phone that works at the best buy kiosk. little do they know, JEDI MIND TRICKING DOES NOT WORK WITH ME.
so we go to piercing pagoda and my mom decides to take charge and ask the lady how many baby ears shes done, etc. apparently the lady has done like 908544 babies just this morning, so that completely convinced me. jakes mom immediately was out and sat on the bench to watch our belongings. jake soon joined her biting his fingers. then my mom got nervous and went to the bench. the dads stood around because they needed to act like they were tough but i could tell they were about to break and leave soon too. i fill out the paperwork, pick out the earrings, and then go inside and sit down with keya. then. i went from being the cool, calm, awesomely amazing one to having a minor heart attack, turning bright red, and crying. i was becoming a little hysterical bc i didnt want to hurt my baby and maybe this was a stupid decision and she just looked at me with her huge eyeballs and smiled and omg am i the worst mother ever. who does this??? so then i decide i cant do it and make jake come over. jakes really unhappy with this decision but hes the father and must be the strong one. so he takes her and i am crying.
"wah"
"wah"
the lady starts giving us instructions on how to clean her ear. UM WHAT? that was it????? keya cried for .000000000000003 seconds. she cried more when jake was trying to hold down her round head. she cried more when we put socks on her and god forbid a jacket bc it was cold outside.
anyway. thats how it went down. and she looks absolutely sophisticated, elegant, and ladylike. she really is a woman now. im so proud.
the end.

keya at the first starbucks
beautiful day in seattle.
babies playing in the morning....
it was my first trip to seattle and it was a good time! we got lucky with the babies because they both napped (2x a day) at the same time and went to bed for the night at the same time. that made things pretty easy so we could also do a little bit of sightseeing. the day after rowans birthday, jake and i went on a nice walk around green lake which was beautiful. then we went to baby dance class (which was an EPIC FAIL for me as i fell with baby in tow and almost killed us both - not awesome at all), then went to see the fish market and the wharf and get a feel for downtown seattle. normally, i would have wanted to have an enjoyable long dinner with lots of wine on the wharf and possibly hit up norstrom, but with a 4 month old this was not possible. we did have a really nice lunch though with some crab mac and cheese YUM and a sleeping kball. saturday was jakes birthday so we went on another walk, lounged around the house, and then jen, jake, keya, and i went back to the fish market, walked around, saw the first starbucks, had a really good italian sandwich, and had some tullys! then we put the kids to bed and had some indian food. it was a nice vacation with early mornings and early bedtimes for all. cant wait to reunite with them in cabo!!!
cousin ro's first birthday
nbd, elmo sunglasses
walk "around" green lake
keya, why are you wearing a party dress with pearls? oooh! i like your flower.
its my birthday, i shall take your flower.
keya: WHY DOES THIS ALWAYS HAPPEN TO ME!
rowan: peace out cuz!
keya: yo cuzzzz happy burthday gurllllllllllllllllllllll
our first day in seattle was cousin rowans first birthday. we woke up feeling refreshed after a long night flying and started off with a cousin reunion. dru and jen have a really nice bright big house near green lake and it felt good to relax and lounge. keya brought rowan a pair of elmo sunglasses and they rocked out for a while. then we went for a walk around green lake (we made it about 1/24th around before k started freaking out, she HATES wearing the bear outfit and being bundled up), and soon opened gifts and had some cake and yummy food. it was fun - happy first birthday rowan!
keyas first flight...
"bonjour. i am zi president of zi plane. i have been given zi wings for zi flight. please take your seats so i can rule zi ship. merci"
HOLY CHEEKS
sleepy baby. long heavy sleepy baby.
mom and babe. both tired after a long night flight where babe did not sleep.
keyas first flights to and from seattle were a success. jake and i were really stressed out about how she would handle it, whether she would cry the entire time, etc etc. she was really good aside from the fact that she barely slept. she was very smily and giggly and it was really cute. she even earned her first set of wings from the captain and flight attendents. little dumbo. lessons i learned from flying with an infantino:
1) dont put the kid in a sleeper. layer them up because it gets RULL HOT on planes these days.
2) take a lot of formula and water if you dont nurse. like...A LOT. i didnt realize that the flights can be dehydrating for the kid, keya drank like 8 extra oz's just on the plane alone - i kept worrying that she was gonna puke but she was fine...just very thirsty.
3) stand in the back of the plane before take off until you have to sit down. that way you can befriend the flight attendants AND not waste any more time sitting down for the long flight. it was a good place to stand with her so she could fall assleep before takeoff and landing prior to sitting down too bc i could rock her.
4) take a couple small pillows. 14+lbs & over 2 foot tall infant = very uncomfortable.
5) and of course, the old "feed a couple oz during takeoff and landing to clear the ears". keya didnt cry at all on the flight so im assuming this worked.
